How to recover permanently deleted messages, as well as mails from deleted folders and accounts of Windows Live Mail.

How to recover messages in Windows 10

  1. Download, install and launch Recovery Tool for Windows Live Mail.

  2. Select the logical volume or physical drive where your messages were stored. As a rule, it is the logical disk "C:". Click the "Find and recover lost emails" button to start scanning.

    The program will scan the selected volume or drive. The time it takes depends on the size of the volume (or drive) and the performance of the computer and may take several hours. After the scan is over, the program will show the list of all found messages. You can sort the list of messages by the date or by the From, To, Subject fields. To do it, click the corresponding column in the list of messages.

  3. Select the messages you want to save in the list. You can select all emails at once (press Ctrl + A for that) or only some of them.

    Or you can use the Message Filter to select messages. Click the "Filter messages" button to open the dialog box for filtering emails.

  4. Click the "Save recovered emails" button.

    The "Select Output Folder" dialog box will appear. Specify the folder where you want to save the recovered messages to. We strongly recommend that you save the emails to a drive different from the scanned one, otherwise not all messages will be saved!

    You can also make the program save EML files under different names. If the "Rename *.eml files" checkbox is selected, the files will be renamed according to your choice. Otherwise the EML files will have such names as msg00000.eml, msg00001.eml, etc. Click the "Save" button to save the messages.

  5. To import recovered EML files back to a Windows Live Mail folder, just drag them from the Windows Explorer folder to the Windows Live Mail folder.

    Tip: You can create new temporary folder in Windows Live Mail and import your .eml files into this folder. Then you can browse and sort the emails in that folder any way you like. Using Drag&Drop, you can move the emails from the temporary folder to other folders where you want to have them stored. When you are done, simply delete the temporary folder.

How to restore mails in Windows 7

  1. Download, install and launch Recovery Tool for Windows Live Mail.

  2. Click the "Find and recover lost emails" button to start scanning.

    The program will start scanning the Windows Live Mail database and searching for deleted emails. The process can take a few minutes.

    After the search is over, the program will display the list of the found folders with messages. To view folder contents, click the folder in the left tab. The icons of the deleted messages are marked with a little red cross.

  3. Select the messages you would like to recover. You can select all messages or some. Right-click the list of the folder contents in the right tab to access the context menu of the folder items selection.

  4. After you select the messages, click the "Save recovered emails" button.

    You will be offered a dialog window to select the destination folder. We strongly recommend you to choose a folder located not on the C: drive, for example on D:, E: etc. Specify a folder and press "Save".

    For each folder with messages a separate subfolder will be created on the hard drive. Each message will be saved as a separate file with the EML extension.

  5. To import recovered EML files back to a Windows Live Mail folder, just drag them from the Windows Explorer folder to the Windows Live Mail folder.
